One of the things I always remembered about Uncle Jimmy is that he had similar taste in music as I did when I was growing up. He would always remember to bring me back something if he went to a concert, like a shirt from Jingle Ball when he saw Evanescence, or the live concert recording of Avril Lavigne (which I still own). He was always thoughtful that way when it came to things that I liked and was often the one buying me new CDs for Christmas. I'm pretty sure I'm the one that got him into Lindsey Stirling though! Uncle Jimmy was always in good spirits any time we were able to see each other and one of my favorite things to do when visiting in recent years was to get bagels. I think he was just as excited about getting them as I was. He was always asking about Daniel and Leon and kept their Christmas ornaments they made on display. I only wish that we were able to spend more time together after they were born., but luckily he was able to see them grow up through photos. If there is one thing I'm grateful for its that he is now at rest and has certainly gone to a better place. I love you Uncle Jimmy. Until we meet again.

I bid farewell to Jimmy today, whom have known for over 50 years. I will always remember you, especially sitting around Mary and Roland's dining room table while enjoying a good meal and sharing stories. Also, I cherished your love, prayers, and kindness to my mom and I.
I will be forever grateful and blessed for our friendship. You will always be in my thoughts and prayers.
Rest in Peace
Love, Nancy

My Uncle Jimmy was a gentle soul to me. Someone who was a calm, quiet presence throughout my childhood. If he ever yelled, I can't remember it. As I grew older, I remember him at family gatherings mingling and chatting with everyone. He adored me and my sister and was never unkind to either of us. He would remember little details about our lives, surprising me each time he'd bring up something I might had said months ago. We didn't get enough time with him. Part of that was distance and the other part because of his ongoing medical issues.
I wonder who Uncle Jimmy would have been if he not have had his health problems. I wonder where he would have traveled, what job he may have chosen, if he would have gotten married and had children... Now he is where all dreams come true and possibilities are endless. Now he has absolute freedom that he never really had in life, and for that, I am grateful. He'll never be in pain again. He'll never miss out on something fun again. A place where the coffee is always hot and Mets always win.
I will miss you and I love you.
Rest in peace Uncle Jimmy.

Again, I reiterate my sincere condolences for your loss.
Just a few memories of your beloved brother and my friend Jimmy Polis.
I was with Jimmy almost every night for ten years at the poker club called Hearts in Bethpage. I picked him up at his apartment each night. He was always outside waiting for me. He couldn’t wait to get into the club. Strangely poker was his thing and not mine.
We spent 8 plus hours together nightly. He worked the door (security) and always jumped into the poker game against our wishes. We didn’t want him to lose his money and his pay for the night. I drove him home after we filled our bellies at the diner and got him home by daybreak in most cases.
We had long conversations. Jimmy loved his family, loved God, and his strong religious convictions got him through tough times. Jimmy cursed a lot, and he had reason too, he had no luck in poker.
He was proud of his job at Pathmark until had to leave after losing his toes because of diabetes.
He was excited for each Monday morning to come, go to work at dietz and Watson route he worked with his friend. I remember early on Jimmy driving his own car (the size of a boat) to the club and it was hard for him to give it up but because of the expense and after his eyesight became an issue he had no choice.
He loved poker but hated most of the players because they were mostly younger wise guys. He was right they were wise guys, but they were actually teasing him, and there was mutual respect.
Jimmy was a proud American and he loved Donald Trump. He discussed politics all of the time and he was ahead the everyone with his taste in music, touting Taylor Swift, Avril Levine and Rihanna before they were stars. He even went to their concerts!
He accomplishment a lot in life, which may have not been evident to others. He took nothing for granted. He was a simple man, self sufficient and living in his apartment in Hempstead until his health issues got worse..
Jimmy was One of a kind.
I’m sorry he suffered so much.
He never complained!
RIP JIMMY.

Dear James,
You were such a caring and thoughtful person that I was so happy to know and love. I am grateful that we had a few adventures together with Mary and it was not all while you were sick. I will miss our visits to the diner for breakfast and I still owed you dinner at Popei’s for your favorite baked clams. God took you too soon but I am okay knowing you are with all your loved ones and free of pain and suffering. I pray for you to be in eternal Peace my friend.
Love and miss you, Debbie Sternschein
