I was heartbroken to learn of John's sudden passing. He was a special friend to me, very kind and generous. Growing up across the street, going to college together, and sharing lots of laughs and conversations, I was always in awe of his brilliance, his wit, and his encyclopedic knowledge of rock and roll. Although I hadn't seen John in recent years, I have always considered him a life long friend. I can still picture him nodding his head grinning that unmistakable JB grin. I will always cherish those memories. He was taken too soon. Please accept my deepest condolences. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

I forgot the timeout time in 1973,I drove down to Asburypark to see the group Renaissance that you reminded me of And told me that we had a great time Taking me to meetings from Rockaway to suffolk county and always bringing music that we listened to back in 1973. John had an easy way to share his knowledge. Whether about music or AA.

We are "anonymous" with the flowers to the Bernardones "with deepest condolences to the Bernardone family"....not sure why the Trumpbour family signing didn't take....must be my tech skills.
John was an amazing person that I really got to know when we both ran track at Archbishop Molloy HS even though we both lived in Forest Hills. I am so glad to see how many lives John touched with his giving personality over the years as we lost touch but I was so glad to see him when my parents passed and he came by Fox Funeral Home. John was a fantastic runner and gave it his all in every event. John and I became friends and his love of music led us to many concerts in Manhattan with his favorites like the Kinks and Wishbone Ash. As many have noted John knew his sports and regaled me with various stats for NY teams. We lost touch after college and my move to the Philadelphia area.
I am very saddened by John's early passing but so happy that he touched many with his vivacious personality. I am sorry I cannot be there to honor John but am thinking of him from here in FL.

I remember when “ Sweet Judy Blue Eyes” first became popular , John decided to play choir director and instructed a group of us to sing individual parts of the song. To this day, 55 years later, whenever I hear that song, I remember that warm summer evening sitting on someone’s stoop singing away, and seeing John’s big, happy smile. My condolences to the Bernardone family. Lynn Fazio Drury

I've known John for about 55 years from participating in various sports and hanging out in and around the P.S. 144 Schoolyard. He was a good all around Athlete. I played Softball and Basketball in the Schoolyard with him. I also remember "Skitching" on the back of cars and trucks with him on snowy days or nights. I continued to bump into him over the years at High School Citywide track meets, the Memorial Day Parade in FH and walking through Forest Hills. I recently told him I was diagnosed with Cancer and he told me he would pray for me. About 3 weeks ago I bumped into him at a Memorial Mass at OLM Church. He told me that he had lit a candle for me that day and continued to keep me in his prayers. I was very moved. He was always a friendly and caring person. He will Truly be Missed. Thanks John for being a Friend to me and my Brother.

Q: What will you miss most about John?
A: I had the privilege of meeting John Francis two years ago at one of our regular gatherings. As someone new to our way of life, I was feeling quite vulnerable and unsure about opening up. However, John had a remarkable way of making me feel at home. His kindness, support, and warm welcome were truly comforting.
What stood out most to me was his incredible energy and enthusiasm for recovery. John was not only dedicated to his own journey but was also deeply committed to serving others. He had an inspiring ability to rally those around him to join in his mission to help.
Through John, I gained invaluable insights about the Traditions that bind our Fellowship together and the profound impact of giving back.
His absence will be deeply felt, and I will truly miss his uplifting presence in our lives.

May John rest in peace. We were friends from the 4th grade . We lost contact when I moved out of state in my mid 20s. He did call me out of the blue 20 years ago. It was great to catch up. We played many sports together and competed against each other in high school. He always hung out with my teammates from the inner city. Everyone loved him. He had a quick wit and kind heart. I'll never forget the nun at OLM asking the two of us to get the assembly room ready. We had the brilliant idea of moving the clock ahead so we could get out early. John climbed on my shoulders. I lost my balance and the clock shattered on the floor. I don't remember the punishment but we always laughed about it when we were together. I wish I could be there for his celebration of life. He was one of the good ones.
