Obituary of Joanna Valenti
Please share a memory of Joanna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joanna Valenti was called home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2025. She was born on August 14, 1939, to loving parents Yolanda Mechetti Valenti and Joey Valenti who preceded her in death. Her sister Josephine Alfieri also preceded her. She was born in Brooklyn, and lived most of her life in Ozone Park, NY.
Joanna was the matriarch of the Valenti family. Growing up as the eldest child she learned the value of loving and taking care of family, and that quality never faded. She is survived by two siblings: Terri (Andy, deceased) Mazzone of Littleton, Colorado, and Mark (Linda) Valenti of Orlando Florida; and brother-in-law Carmine Alfieri of Ozone Park, NY.
In addition to her strong bonds with her siblings, her life was full of love for her nieces and nephews: Karen Mazzone, Carmine Alfieri, Tina (Eneil) Simpson, Robert (Jaimee) Alfieri, Dina (Jamie) Segal, Joseph (Erika) Valenti, Mike (Jennifer) Valenti, and Chris (Samantha) Valenti. Favorite memories shared by these loved ones include special vacations without their parents. As the fun aunt, these outings resulted in shenanigans like allowing them to drive go carts when their feet didn't touch the pedals, and multiple visits to see her favorite baseball team, the NY Yankees.
She is also survived by great nieces and nephews Justin and Alex Segal; Erick Vega; Savannah and Skylar Valenti; Marco and Jillian Alfieri, and many other family members and friends.
Her love for family was second only to her faith. She was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Mary Gate of Heaven Parish and a dedicated member of its Women of Hope ministry, and Godmother to numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including cousin Mark Ventimiglia with whom she had a special bond.
Joanna was an accomplished professional beginning her career at age 18 as a secretary and retiring after 40 years as the office manager for Charles R. Weber Company.
She will be missed by her church, family, and friends.
