Our family will never be the same without Mary, but her love and memory will always be with us. Mary was a devoted mother and a kind spirit, and we will miss her and take care of Joanne and Carmen, her beloved daughters, as she would have wanted. We count ourselves fortunate to have known her, celebrated holidays with her, and to witness the love she had for her daughters and our son and brother, Chris. My great-aunt Mary, whom I've called Zia my whole life, was one of the strongest and most loving women I’ve ever known. She and my maternal grandfather were the only siblings of a family of 5 to emigrate from Italy to the States. In addition to raising her daughters, my "Aunts" Carmen and Joanne, on her own after her husband passed away 50 years ago, she was also constantly there for my mom, Maria, especially after her mother passed away in 1988. This love extended to my sisters and me as we grew up, who, never having met our maternal grandmother, looked up to Zia as if she always had been.
I’ve spent every Christmas of my life in her basement, and while there are so many things I’ll cherish about Zia, I will especially miss seeing her at the head of the table after she spent hours cooking an incredible meal for us all to share. For that, and so many other moments spent learning from her about my grandfather and la nostra patria, my Zia was irreplaceable. I am deeply grateful for the moments we shared, and it comforts me to know she is finally back with my grandparents, great-uncle John, and everyone near and dear whom she loved and kept in her heart for so many years.
Grazie mille, Zia - ti amo per sempre.

For my Dear Godmother and Aunt, Zia Maria, may you rest in God’s eternal peace for surely you are in heaven with Him. For me when I was growing up, and later with Danny, we thank you for all you did for us, which you did with a mother’s loving heart! That is your way and you inspire us to do the same. For Matthew, Angela & Nicole, you have been their Grandmother and an amazing presence in their lives, they loved to visit you, be with you and listen to your stories about our family and Italy,. It is hard to say goodbye. We will miss you immensely but we have you in our hearts forever, and know you will be watching over us. Love, Maria, Danny, Matthew, Angela & Nicole (& Tanner, too)

Rest in Peace, dear sweet Zia, who more than fulfilled her place in my life as Aunt and Godmother! She was another Mother to me (and Dan), and our kids loved her as a Grandmother. We are all grateful for all you have done for us over the years and for being in our lives! We know you are an angel in heaven now with Uncle John and your beloved family members! My heart is broken seeing you lying in your bed. Even though I didn't get to spend much time with you throughout my life, you were always a constant presence. I always felt you close to me, no matter where I was or what stage of life I was going through. With your love and your extraordinary way of caring for others, you some how managed to erase the distance of an entire ocean. I will never forget everything you, Carmen & Joanne did for me when I was in America. Those memories and the love you showed me will stay with me forever.
