Obituary of Florence Barbasso

FLORENCE BARBASSO age 100, of Forest Hills/Stony Point, N.Y., died peacefully on May 4, 2022, in Delray Beach Florida, entering God’s kingdom, a month shy of her 101 birthday. Florence was born June 14, 1921 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Mary (Ruggiero) and Joseph Taffare. She lived in Forest Hills for 70 years until moving to Stony Point, to live with her daughter and son in law. Florence married Jack Barbasso, the love of her life, in 1941, and followed him during his military tour of duty. They settled in Forest Hills to raise a family and became active members of their community. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church and considered her fellow parishioners her extended family. Florence was an active member of the Golden Age Club, the Middle Village Seniors, the Meals on Wheels Seniors of West Haverstaw and was a past member of the Forest Hills Womens Club, where she was an inspiration and beacon of joy to all she encountered. She remained a creative person until recently; singing, dancing, painting, sewing, jewelry making, and floral design, to benefit many causes. Florence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughters Anne Marie (Bill) Murphy, Jacqueline (Stephen) Ferrara, Jayne (John) Muscat; her grandchildren Keith (Felicita) Ferrara, Justin (Sara) Ferrara, Stephen (Lauren) Ferrara, Joseph (Morgan) Muscat, Katelyn (Justin) Tompkins; her much adored great grandchildren Dominic, Julianna, Savannah, Luca, Hazel and Greyson Ferrara, and Olivia Muscat. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jack; her sisters Josephine Marshall, Ann Smith, and brother Steven Taffare, brother in laws Peter Marshall, Eugene Smith, her neice Anne Marshall, nephew Joseph Marshall and many dear and cherished friends. Interment at St John’s Cemetery 80-01 Metropolitan Ave. Middle Village, NY 11379 immediately following mass.
