Michael and I went to high school together in Brooklyn. We were very friendly, and I remember him so well. He was very talented and had an exuberant personality. I included two photos of him in high school. My sincerest condolences to his partner and his family.

Michael’s gift to me was the lightness he lived and brought to my life. His larger than life personality, the natural entertainer, unmatched sense of humor – an endless list of treasures he shared -- gave me laughter and joy. When I think of Michael I remember the theater, fine dining and the lovely road trips the three of us took. Everything about Michael glowed.
In the past six months we spoke almost daily. We became very close and I saw his beautiful indomitable spirit. I loved Michael like a brother and am diminished by his loss.

Michael and I have lived together in perfect love and imperfect harmony for forty years. We have a lifetime of anecdotes: many happy, some bizarre and some angry, a world of memory. What I can't do now is tell any of them. It is too much of a burden, even the happiest ones are pained.
I do want to tell you what those early years were like for us. We met at work in 1980. By the time Michael returned from an extended trip to Japan we knew what we wanted. It was on Good Friday, a was a warm, sunny Friday. Michael was supposed to be cleaning his Mom's carpets but instead he was at my apartment. We vowed one to the other that from that day onward we would have a joint life,,,and we did. We worked together, lived together, ate together, played together, We saw every play and ate in every Japanese restaurant that the city had to offer. I didn't know such perfect joy was possible. We were drunk on it. Where I had virtues he had faults, where Michael had virtues I had faults. It was so much more natural being one instead of two.
Life was a phantasy. Everything that could go right went right but everything that could go wrong went wrong. How foolish to ignore the second part. Eventually the phantasy ended and we were faced with reality. That is where the anecdotes begin and that is for another time.
