Obituary of Michael J. Della Jacono

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Della Jacono It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Joseph Della Jacono on October 24, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. Michael was born April 24, 1954 in the Presidio, San Francisco, CA to Vincent and Kazuko Della Jacono. His father’s military career gave him the opportunity to live in Japan with his mother’s family and New York City which he eventually called home. Here he was immersed in the culture and embraced by the Italian side of the family. He is survived by his loving partner of 40 years, Del Patrick Carmichael, brother John and his wife Mary, sister Cecilia and her husband Steven. He delighted immensely in his nieces and nephews; Anthony and his wife Cori, Michelle and her partner Brian, Jennifer and her partner Brian and John-Michael and his fiancé Alyssa and Phoebe. He even became a great uncle to Charlee, Rylee, Declan, Jude, Liam and Lucca. Michael was very bright, artistic and a talented performer and was drawn to the theater. He naturally became the star in all school productions and continued to pursue his passion throughout life. A few of his credits are, appearing in True Blue Greens TV pilot, the movie The Cotton Club and was a principal dancer in Alonso Castro Dance Theater. His college career took him in an altogether different direction. He attended La Salle University in Pennsylvania studying religion as he committed to seminary with Trinity Missions. However, he couldn’t fight his true calling to perform and be involved in the arts. He often sang in local cabarets, a regular at Marie’s Crisis, brought him as much pleasure as it did the patrons. He knew everything about musical theater including the lyrics of practically all the hit Broadway shows. In most recent years, he shared his creativity with family and friends through handcrafted holiday cards inspired by his Japanese heritage, highly prized by those fortunate to receive one. And we all know his wonderful emoji holiday greetings. Michael was very generous, often bestowing lavish gifts on family and friends. Most importantly he gave his time and support to help in any way he could, especially caretaking of beloved family members including the four-legged ones. And his humor! His impressions and imitations were priceless and everyone was reduced to belly aching laughter at all family gatherings. His positive outlook, courage and kindness got him through the toughest times which served him well and as those who loved him. He will be forever missed.
